Refrigerator Not Cooling: Start Here Before You Panic
The milk feels warm, the butter is soft, and the fridge light is on but nothing inside is actually cold. Sometimes the freezer still works fine while the fresh-food section slowly climbs into the danger zone.
What you’re seeing
- Fresh-food section warm while freezer seems fine (or both are warm)
- Fridge runs constantly, almost never cycling off
- Loud buzzing or clicking sounds from the back of the unit
- Water or frost pooling on the fridge floor under the crisper drawers
- Ice cream soft in the freezer, milk spoiling faster than the expiration date
3 things to check yourself
- Check the temperature settings. Accidentally bumped to a warm setting is the most common 'repair' we never have to charge for. Fridge should be 37–40°F, freezer 0°F.
- Pull the fridge out and look at the condenser coils. If they're matted with dust and pet hair, vacuum them gently with a brush attachment — choked coils make the compressor run hot and lose cooling.
- Confirm the breaker and outlet. Plug a lamp into the fridge's outlet to confirm it's live; a tripped breaker or loose plug masquerades as a dead fridge.
When to call us
If the settings are right, coils are clean, and power is fine but the box still won't hold temperature, the sealed system, compressor, evaporator fan, or defrost system needs professional diagnosis — this is not DIY territory. Our $95 diagnostic (free with the repair) identifies the failed part and quotes the full repair, with 1 month labor and 3 months parts warranty on the work. Call (747) 218-2666.
